Flash Photo Gallery

A WordPress plugin which creates a Flash Photo Gallery like one provided in Adobe Photoshop CS2 Flash Web Photo Gallery templates. Features include:

  1. Create and manage multiple Flash Photo Galleries.
  2. Customize galleries by specifying titles, colors, thumbnail size and a lot more options.
  3. Uses the wordpress built-in media uploader (media-upload.php) to add photos to.
  4. Multiple photo galleries can be added in any page or post using a simple short code.
  5. Uses SWFObject (http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/) for embedding swf
  6. Compatible with WordPress MU.

The plugin can be downloaded from WordPress Plugin Directory. I am planning the following features for the upcoming major release of the plugin:

  1. Multiple flash galleries (all 3 galleries to be ported from Adobe Photoshop CS2 Flash Web Photo Gallery templates)
  2. Edit galleries already created (currently not suppored)
  3. Preview while creation (before save)

  1. Works great, thank you

  3. Nice work. Thanks! Looking forward to that release allowing editing of existing galleries … in the mean time, is there any way to control the size of a gallery, or force it to open in a new window? (fpg 0.4 / wpmu 2.7.1)

  4. a lovely plugin. was wondering , if there is any way to set wmode=transparent.
i tried to add the code fpg_config.xml.tpl but the bgcolor still shows up.

    awaiting your reply.

thank a ton for sharing this.

  5. hi….
is there any way to align the gallery to the top…i have it and i didn’t use the title and subtitle so there’s a lot of blank space above the pix…

    thanks…..

  6. Hi,

I have tried to use this plugin on my website but when I preview it, the page comes up blank. Any suggestions?
The demo shows up, just not using the app from within my site.

    Thanks,
    Michelle

  7. @ Michelle

This happens with some hosts and WP installations. Happened with me too (am hosted on Godaddy). Just check ‘upload_path’ in http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/options.php, it should be either blank or it should have the complete absolute path (something like /home/content//html/sitefolder/wp-content/uploads)

  8. Awesome

  9. I sure hope there will be an update to this wonderfull plugin, wich will allow the user to edit existing galleries. (And of course the width/height)

Otherwise, this plugin is all I ever wanted for my photoblog!

  10. Finally! a beautiful photo gallery that works great and is simple enough even I can install it! Thank you thank you thank you! I did have one question…the header in your demo appears left justified but on my page, it’s centred and runs off the page. I tried re-setting the justification but it doesn’t seem to matter. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time and commitment to helping make Word Press so awesome.

  11. Sure, the link is at: http://fairytalepalace.com/gallery/ The title of the gallery starts in the centre and falls off the page.

thanks very much for checking this out.

While I have your attention, I noticed in your demo that the size of the photos appear larger than the max 300pix I can upload to Word press. What is the maximim size of photos we can upload to your gallery?

  12. great job…. :D
    Thank you for sharing….

  13. Good looking gallery!
is it possible to change width?
It takes whole body – I would like to do it not so wide. How to change it?

  15. Brilliant plugin, Akshay…thanks for sharing!

  16. Suggestion: Please either add support for .png or say somewhere (prominent) what file types it supports. Spent quite a bit of time stumped and frustrated because I couldn’t get it to work with my .pngs.

  17. thank useful for me

  18. Still lovin’ your plugin. Thanks for the time you’ve put into this!

I have another request/suggestion…could you make it so the album is aligned to the top of the flash file? The albums output by your plugin are beautiful, but the white space above them makes it hard to fit them into page layouts. http://www.hollybarr.com/my-listings/1086-byerley

  19. Hi! When is the update coming for the Flash Photo Gallery?

    • I have been planning this for a while now. Will surely target a release soon.

  20. Cool!. I like a lot:) Thanks

  21. hi,

nice plugin but I looks like it cant handle pictures ending with CAPITAL JPG

  22. great plugin, just started using it.

  23. Love the gallery but!!
I get errors when uploading in WP2.8 Media area.

Warning: getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/agnes/public_html/staging/wp-content/plugins/flash-photo-gallery/fpg_main.php on line 98

  24. Hi,

THanks for this plugin. I noticed 2 major issues though

    1) I had to remove the line that fills in the select menu in the admin part (echo get_file_option_list(get_fpg_path(‘FPG_base_dir’,'w’).’flash-photo-gallery’); in fpg_main.php) ’cause it prevented the end of the page to load, hence I could not create any gallery. I just found it was because I was using php1.4 . I updated and it was fine, it’s all my fault :)

    2) when the images are added to the hidden input in your create page, the capital extensions are transformed to lower case, so the images are not found when you load the flash player.

My version of WordPress is 2.8.4, and I use php 5 (now :D )

  25. You say I can put the gallery on my page by using some simple code, but I can’t figure out what code; do you have more directions anywhere? I followed the simple installation, that went fine, turned it on, and Flash Photo Gallery appears in the Media part of my dashboard. But there is nothing there that allows me to upload any photos or give me the code for my page.

Is it perhaps just not working with my theme, or am I missing something?

  27. Thanks for your work, this is exactly the plugin i was looking for, but after try it, only one thing make it hard to use it, and if i cannot fix it, i won t use it :(
How can we align the gallery to the topinstead having the 180px between the gallerie and the top of the div containing it?

    Anyway thanks again

    • @khong – You may use the height=”123px” in the shortcode for this. For example [fpg id=fgpid height="200px" width="500px"]

  31. I’m really looking forward to deploying this on our WPMU sites. Thanks for the gallery size update! However, images still get embedded at full size – even when added to the gallery as “medium” – causing them to fall outside the gallery and force the title, thumbnails and navigation outside the Gallery window. The only way I see to make this plugin work as deisred, is to upload images at the size they need to be for fitting within in the gallery window and theme. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks for the hard work!

  32. Thanks for great plugin! Can you make it for other langueges? I’m from Ukraine and cann’t create galleries in my native language and titles are showing as empty.

  33. can you please email and help me work this plug in… i cant get it work!!! thanks.
